iPhone Portrait Photos

Looking Glass Studio can make holograms from iPhone Portrait Mode photos that contain depth data.

Taking Portrait Mode Photos

To take Portrait mode photos with your iPhone, visit Apple's website.

Looking Glass Studio does not support HEIC photos.

In your iPhone, browse to Settings -> Camera -> Formats and selecting Most Compatible to take photos in JPG.

If you have already shot HEIC photos, browse to Settings -> Photos -> Transfer to Mac or PC and select Automatic to transfer photos as JPG.

Transferring your Portrait Photos

When transferring iPhone Portrait Mode photos to your computer, you can use any of the following transfer methods:

  • iCloud

  • the Native iPhone Mail app (make sure to send as "Actual Size")

  • Google Photos (if syncing full-quality photos)

  • Gmail (only on Android)

Do not use the iPhone Gmail app, as it will delete necessary depth data in the transfer.

Import into Looking Glass Studio

To import Portrait photos into Looking Glass Studio you can:

  • Drag and the file into Looking Glass Studio, then select the iPhone Portrait Photo option.

or

  • Select the Add Hologram tab and click anywhere on the panel. This will open a File Explorer or Finder window where you can select the images(s) you want to import.

Editing with the Properties Panel

  • Depthiness changes how depthy or flat the hologram appears.

  • Focus changes the focal plane of the hologram

  • To pan and zoom, place your cursor in the Looking Glass window and scroll up or down to Zoom, and click and drag to Pan
