Setting Up

Standard Looking Glass Setup Guide

Hardware

System Requirements

For the best experience we recommend using a computer with the following specs:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit (A MacBook Pro Core i5 will work with your Looking Glass but a PC with a dedicated graphic card will perform better.)
  • CPU: Equivalent to Intel Core i5 or above
  • Graphics Card: Equivalent to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or above
  • RAM: 4GB or above
  • Internal Storage: 128GB or above

What’s in the Box

  • Standard Looking Glass
  • USB-C Cable
  • HDMI cable
  • Microfiber Cloth

Buttons and Connectors

cable connection

Connect up the HDMI cable and USB-C Power cable to your host computer’s HDMI & USB 3.0 ports. Once both your cables are connected, you should see the LEDs around your Looking Glass light up. Now you’re ready to run your first holographic application!

Lighting note: there is a small switch behind your Looking Glass that will turn on/off the LED side lights that illuminate the system. We recommend that you always have this LEDs on — especially when filming your Looking Glass — as they will help add several depth cues to your content.

Audio note: please make sure that audio is selected to drive out of your computer’s speakers, and not the Looking Glass itself, as the Looking Glass has no built-in speakers.

Please take care to clean your Looking Glass only with the included microfiber cloth. Do not clean with other cleaning agents or alcohol.

Windows PC

Open up your display settings and ensure that you are extending your displays. Your second display (highlighted like in the image above) should be running the display at a resolution set at 2560 x 1600. Before you confirm these settings, make sure that the scale is also set to 100%.

Mac

Open up your display settings and if connected properly, your display should automatically be optimized for LookingGlass. Ensure also that you are mirroring your displays.

Installing Orion (Windows Only)

Some Apps in the Library are built with interaction that use the Leap Motion Controller. To ensure that you can run these applications, please head on over to the Leap Motion website to download the latest Orion beta here.

Because the Orion software is only available for Windows PC, there are a few of the starter applications that will not work with the Leap Motion Controller. For these, we’ve added some simple keyboard interactions to get you up and running. For the full interactive experience, we recommend that you run them off a Windows PC.

Test Everything

Download the Example Scene. If everything is set up correctly, your example scene should look like this:

To test that your buttons are working, the icons on the right should light up correspondingly.

If you're having issues, try using this troubleshooting guide.

Congratulations!

Your Looking Glass is done being set up! Go ahead and try out some experiences others have made in our Library.
