For the best experience we recommend using a computer with the following specs:
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit (The 15.6" Developer Kit Looking Glass only works with graphics cards that are able to output 3840 x 2160 or above)
- CPU: Equivalent to Intel Core i5 or above
- Graphics Card: Equivalent to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or above
- RAM: 4GB or above
- Internal Storage: 128GB or above
Setting Up Your Looking Glass
This Looking Glass comes with a baseplate. To avoid damaging the glass surface of your Looking Glass, we recommend installing the baseplate as follows. No tools needed!
- Place your Looking Glass face-up on the edge of a flat surface.
- Leave enough room to slide the base plate from underneath (black side facing out).
- Align the three screws with the three holes.
- When aligned, push the plate up. You should hear a soft "click".
Cleaning note: Please take care to clean your Looking Glass only with the included microfiber cloth. Do not clean with other cleaning agents or alcohol.
Display Settings: PC
- Verify that your displays are extended.
- Set your second display to 3840px x 2160px.
- Ensure that the second display is set to 100% scale.
Connectors & Buttons
Connect the HDMI cable and the USB-C cable to your host computer and plug the power adapter into a 110v - 220v power source. Once power and the HDMI & USB-C cables are connected, you should see LEDs around your Looking Glass light up and your computer desktop should appear in the Looking Glass. If not, check all cable connections and try to click the ON/OFF switch for the Looking Glass.
There are two switches on the side of your Looking Glass. One will switch ON/OFF the display and the other will switch ON/OFF the LEDs that illuminate the display (pictured above).
There are four buttons on the front face of the aluminum housing of the Looking Glass. Each of these buttons performs a different action for each Looking Glass app.
Setting up the Leap Motion (add-on)

Running the Test Scene
Once your Looking Glass is connected to your computer and display settings are properly adjusted, you are ready to run the Test Scene. The Test Scene is intended to let you -- the new proud Looking Glass owner -- get adjusted to how your Looking Glass should look.
- Visit look.glass/gettingstarted.
- Download the Test Scene.
- Run the Test Scene.
If all settings are correct, your Test Scene should look like this:
The icons on the right should light up when you press the corresponding buttons.
The Library is where you can find a universe of holographic applications.
Download at look.glass/library. WiFi is required for initial setup.
The Library is intended to run off your computer alongside your Looking Glass giving you access to an ever-growing number of holographic applications.
Mouse-over any application for an instant 3D preview. Download applications to launch them.
If you'd like to make your own apps for the Looking Glass, we've developed a suite of tools that allow you to create your own 3D holographic content. These include:
- HoloPlay SDK for Unity
- HoloPlay.js (three.js library)

What to do if...
The image inside your Looking Glass looks garbled.
Check that both HDMI and USB-C cables are connected to your computer. For the sake of troubleshooting, disconnect both cables, re-connect them and then restart your computer. If that doesn't fix the issue, check that your display settings are adjusted following the instructions above.
Applications are running slow at a low frame-rate.
While most of our applications run on a wide range of computer configurations, we have minimum recommended settings listed above that you can refer to. We often find that when a computer is not plugged into a power source, this slows down the frame-rate so please check to ensure that this is not the case. Also make sure that the application is running off the dedicated GPU of your computer. Generally, all applications in the Library will run at 30-60fps.
I want to interact with the hologram (with my meat hands).
Glad you asked! The Looking Glass works with a whole range of accessories -- including the Leap Motion -- which is part of the Interaction Accessory Pack that can be purchased from our website. Several applications in the Library work with the Leap Motion and you can create your own interactive apps in Unity using our HoloPlay SDK along with the Orion SDK.
